What is the Internet? The Internet is an electronic communication network that connects computer networks with computer facilities worldwide. This network is structured and organised via telephone or satellite. Internet networks cannot separate modern human life from the internet network because the internet is a network system that can connect one device to another. The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks using the standard Internet Protocol Suite. In addition to computers, currently, the internet can also connect various devices and serve billions of users worldwide. You could say humans now really need it.

Changes occur in this day and age, so humans can create a solid technology called Wifi. WiFi is a wireless network technology that uses radio waves to provide high-speed wireless internet access. The radio waves used are in the 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz range. WiFi can connect devices such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smart TVs, and smartphones to the internet network. These devices must be in one access point (hotspot) to connect to the internet. Generally, we can access WiFi networks within 20 meters indoors and more than 20 meters outdoors. WiFi does not stand for Wireless Fidelity.

WiFi has several functions, including:

1. Connecting devices such as laptops, smartphones, or other compatible devices to the internet;

2. Share data without having to connect with cables;

3. Connecting one device to another, for example, from a smartphone to a smart tv.

Wifi works simply, and Wifi works by utilising radio waves. Various data requested or sent by the user sped through the air using radio waves. To be able to translate data or documents transmitted via radio waves, a computer must have a wireless adapter to connect to Wifi. Radio waves in the form of these signals are then sent to the router, which functions as a decoder (code translator). After being translated, the data is sent to the internet network using an ethernet connection. Wifi network works both ways. Every information received via the internet also passes through the router at the same time to be coded by it for each data packet, then sent back in the form of a radio signal received by the wireless computer adapter. The main requirement for making WiFi work is to provide a device that can manage internet traffic, such as a router. Later, the router will receive the internet network from providers outside the network. Next, the router will send the network to the nearest device that can receive it. Such as mobile phones, computers, laptops, smart TVs and other devices that can receive internet connections via WiFi from the router. When you are in a place that has a WiFi network, generally, there will be one or more routers placed in that place. In addition to routers, devices such as cellphones and computers can work like routers by activating a WiFi hotspot to share a wireless internet connection.

Here are some advantages and disadvantages of WiFi that you can take into consideration before using it:

Advantages of WiFi

  • Convenience

With its wireless nature, WiFi users can more comfortably access the internet from all locations within the WiFi area. That way, you no longer need to be in one place to be able to use the internet.

  • Mobility

The wireless network allows you to access the internet more flexibly from anywhere. Time broadband package Malaysia Jom Apply

  • Productivity

Using WiFi can increase productivity, especially if you need an internet network to work. In addition, WiFi allows you to stay connected to the internet even if you are in a moving place.

  • Expansion

Wireless WiFi networks only need an additional router or antenna to extend their range. In contrast to the cable network, which has a complex cable structure to expand the range.

  • Use

Another advantage of WiFi is that it is easy to use. You only need to connect a computer with WiFi to enjoy internet access. In contrast, wired networks require additional cables if you want to add users.

  • Cost

The maintenance costs required for wireless WiFi will be less when compared to the maintenance costs for a wired network.

Lack of WiFi

  • Security

WiFi has security network protocols like WPA2-PSK. However, with the development of cybercrime today, you may need additional security systems, especially if you use WiFi to access personal information or activities on the internet.

  • Reach

The IEEE 802.11 network protocol on WiFi generally has a range that is not too wide. However, to expand it, you need additional devices such as wireless antennas, which require additional costs.

  •  Reliability

As with other radio frequency transmissions, the signal on the WiFi network sometimes experiences various kinds of interference. Including interference that is beyond the control of the network administrator.

  • Speed

WiFi network speed is 1 to 54 Mbps, in contrast to wired networks, which can reach 100 Mbps to several Gbps. This makes WiFi slower when compared to wired networks.
